EDU 4.0
We conduct educational activities in the fields of product design and digital manufacturing, for adults and children. Our courses/workshops aim to plant a seed of hope for a society that will be more cohesive and empathic towards the world it lives in a decade from now.
During 2020, we perfected PlayQBO, a modular game that connects new generations with the basics of design by analysing the space and size of the objects that compose it.
The project was presented during Maker Faire 2019 through a series of 45-minute workshops, repeated every hour for the duration of the fair. With an average of 25 participants per shift and 1500 modules and 2000 connectors, more than 1500 people including children and parents were involved.
At the end of the workshops, participants were able to buy their own construction or a kit, the profits were completely donated to the FIAGOP (Federazione Italiana Associazioni Genitori Oncoematologia Pediatrica) for charity. The great success of the project has won it selection as one of the 10 winners of Maker Faire 2019, and the consequent awarding of the Maker of Merit prize.
Tuma Studio’s philosophy is to spread the knowledge of digital manufacturing by involving the whole society. The older generations, and especially those who are still in training today, must mandatorily be aware of these technologies, which one day will not only simplify and speed up work and life processes, but will also establish the possibility of competing on the global scene. Since 2019, Tuma Studio has started a pleasant collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering of the Sapienza University of Rome. We have realised a training module, capable of making students :
- Autonomous in the choice of manufacturing method.
- Autonomous in the choice of materials.
- Able to produce designs with correct tolerances and dimensions for printing and cutting.
- Able to prepare a print and cut file with appropriate software.
- Able to use a 3D FDM and DLP/SLA printer.
- Able to communicate independently with digital fabrication operators.
